In tonight’s special episode, which culminated in a dramatic flash-forward scene that transported us to Christmas 2023, EastEnders made a very audacious move.
The scene ends with six of Walford’s adored matriarchs, Denise (Diane Parish), Kathy (Gillian Taylforth), Linda (Kellie Bright), Sharon (Letitia Dean), Stacey (Lacey Turner), and Suki (Balvinder Sopal) confronting a dead body. But who is it and what has happened? the scene’s producer Chris Clenshaw said.
The show will serve as a springboard for significant storylines involving each of the characters that will develop throughout the year.
The show’s creator revealed that the team determined they wanted something that would involve six of the main women in the current cast when they came up with the concept for the flash-forward.
He compared the effect he hoped the story would have with the long-running “Who killed Lucy Beale?” storyline, saying, “We were looking for an episode to get viewers really excited as we set up an event that they’ll ideally look forward to all year.”
A few of our writers and story team members took that directive into consideration and returned with the concept of flashing forward and, in doing so, we’re guaranteeing a “whodunnit” is coming in the future,’ Chris said.
We came up with the concept and decided it would be more thrilling if we kept the identity of the deceased a secret, making it much more than a “whodunnit”… It’s also a “who-is-it” situation.

One of the characters in the narrative, Lacey Turner, whose hands are shown in the flash-forward covered in blood, was overjoyed to be a part of this groundbreaking tale.
She acknowledged, “When we were informed, it was really exciting.” I think it’s really exciting to try something we’ve never done before. “The six of us went up for a meeting with Chris and he told us all about this concept he had about using a flash forward scene.
It’s also really thrilling that there will be six women involved because that is not something that frequently occurs. I feel very proud to be a part of it because there are six incredibly accomplished and strong women involved.
But on Christmas Day 2023, who is the dead guy lying on the Queen Vic floor? Who among the ladies actually killed him? Lacey has a few hypotheses.
She reflected, “When we first discussed the plot, I assumed it was someone who wasn’t in Albert Square yet.
Lacey speculates that it might be a specific individual if the deceased was a current Square inhabitant.
She said, “At the moment, I have a particular person in mind who will meet their end, but I believe my guess is too obvious and I’m probably wrong.”
“I feel like it’s an accidental fatality,” the more time passes and the more the six of us have talked. I don’t believe it was done on purpose, and I believe it was more of a group effort than the work of a single individual. If it was the work of a single person, then I believe all of the ladies were covering for them.
I believe that we are all hiding for one another because we might all know something that we shouldn’t.
That would be a fascinating development that would result in increasingly more female-focused tales through 2024, which would be very EastEnders-like as it was with the Lucy Beale tale.
However, Chris Clenshaw urged us to “absorb the unforeseen.”
