Legendary Emmerdale actor Chris Chittell is allegedly committed to the ITV soap for another year after signing a new contract.
Since his first appearance in the Dales in 1986, the actor who portrays Eric Pollard has had a number of dramatic storylines.
Eric made his debut on the programme as something of a villain, known for his abuse of others and his subsequent conflicts with the Dingles.
Over the years, he has undoubtedly softened as he has adapted to family life, most notably with his wife Val (Charlie Hardwick), whom he wed in 2008.

Up until her fatal injuries in the 2015 helicopter accident, Val and Eric ran the B&B together in harmony.
Currently, Eric is dating Brenda (Lesley Dunlop) and frequently seen managing David’s (Matthew Wolfenden) store. As Chris continues to play the part, Eric will undoubtedly become involved in more village mishaps.
‘Everyone on Emmerdale is so happy he’s signed on for another year – fans will be relieved he’ll be sticking around,’ a source reportedly told The Sun.
Speaking of mishaps, Eric will get into difficulty in a future episode when he discovers a fumbling Sam Dingle (James Hooton) trying to rob baby Esther of her clothing.
Sam and Lydia are doing their best to support their children and grandchildren despite the expense of living crisis they have been dealing with. Sam is forced to take desperate measures because it has been challenging to extend their incomes.
Pollard is unwilling to let this slide because, as we all know, he isn’t the most compassionate person, particularly when it comes to the Dingles.
Pollard tries to catch Sam as he flees but stumbles and hits his head as he does so.
Will the endearing figure suffer a severe concussion? Will Sam be prosecuted for his offence, too?
