In recent EastEnders scenes, Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), who had formed a life with fiancé Rocky Cotton (Brian Conley), discovered that their union had been founded on deception.
Rocky had been plagued by a dreadful secret while Kathy was planning their fantasy wedding: He was still wed.
In a previous episode, he told Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) the truth, and she called on partner Reiss (Jonny Freeman) for assistance.
The three of them devised a scheme to find Rocky’s wife, whom he wed 20 years before, and arrange for a divorce without Kathy ever knowing.
Rocky felt he couldn’t keep it to himself any longer when it turned out to be harder than they had anticipated.
He approached Kathy at work and said that he had lied about never having been married, which wasn’t well received.
When Kathy discovered that he hadn’t bothered to file for divorce, she became even more enraged and, in an emotional exchange, called it quits with him immediately.
Freddie Slater (Bobby Brazier), who was spray-painting badly spelled expletives on the vehicle window when Rocky arrived at the car lot after the argument, claimed that Bobby Beale (Clay Milner Russell), who had just seen his nan upset, was responsible.
It took little time for Freddie to announce that he had previously assisted Reiss and had located the elusive Jo Cotton (Vicki Michelle).
Rocky was frightened when he said that he had given her Kathy’s address.
But it was too late for him to do anything about it because when a distraught Kathy answered the door, Jo was already there.
Will there be a significant showdown?
