In Monday’s (May 8) visit to Emmerdale, Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) had some good news when she obtained a date for what is (in her opinion, at least) building up to be the Wedding of the Year.
But the news wasn’t nearly as exciting for the soon-to-be groom Nicky (Lewis Cope). In reality, putting on a brave front required all of his perfectly trained acting abilities.
The relationship between Gabby and Nicky is a total sham, and viewers are aware of this, but Gabby is currently blissfully unaware of it as part of a larger scheme by Nicky’s secret father, Caleb Milligan (William Ash), to financially devastate Kim Tate (Claire King) due to her role in the death of Frank Tate, who was later revealed to be Caleb’s father.
Nicky just needs to wed Gabby, whose son Thomas also has some Tate assets registered in his name. Even though Nicky has said he can’t tolerate Gabby and is hating every second of it, Caleb believes this is not much of a request. Nicky hasn’t yet revealed to him that he is homosexual and dating a guy named Ally (Josh Horrocks).
Nicky may have realised he didn’t have much longer to put up with the situation when Gabby informed him that the wedding date had been reserved and everything was finalised. However, you could feel his heart drop as he learned the date.
November 4th. Exactly six months remain.
Could you not arrive sooner? Nicky, who was in a panic, demanded to know while feigning excitement to be Mr. Gabby. He was reminded by his fiancée that wedding planning takes a lot of time, “Especially when you’ve got two mums to juggle.” It is a difficult undertaking in and of itself to design a sitting arrangement that would satisfy both Bernice (Samantha Giles) and Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy).
Additionally, Gabby continued, drawing Nicky’s attention momentarily to the primary objective of the whole venture. She would want a lot of input with the reception since it would be held at Home Farm.
Nicky is Caleb’s sole child as far as we know, but according to the tale he’s told Gabby, he also has an undefined number of siblings. He wanted to invite them, didn’t he?
We’re no longer that close, Nicky remarked.
He was the target of Gabby’s fury. “You almost raised them!” What a complex web of falsehoods he has been spinning. Gabby advised him to mend fences with his relatives so they could all attend the wedding.
Poor Nicky sighed and said, “You and Thomas are the only family I need,” as Gabby pulled a bottle of wine from the refrigerator and he readied himself for more “couples time” upstairs.
He won’t be able to maintain this illusion all the way until November 4, is what I’m saying.
Emmerdale resumes airing on ITV1 and ITVX on Tuesday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m.
