In EastEnders, Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) has been having a hard time dealing with Lola Pearce’s (Danielle Harold) diagnosis, and his desire to give her as long as possible has started to strain his relationships with his loved ones.
Ben believed Lola was giving up the battle when he learned she was being baptised in a recent episode.
He visited her in a condition and encouraged her to keep fighting since he had promised to be there to send his daughter Lexi Pearce (Isabella Brown) go to high school in September.
Furious Ben was called out for his outburst by Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick), who then caught himself before admitting that Lola had previously requested him to assist her commit suicide.
Ben quickly learned what Billy was keeping from Lola’s husband Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) after realising that Billy was concealing something crucial.
As a consequence, the two friends had a major falling out, with Jay informing Ben that it didn’t matter whether he attended the baptism or not.
Ben was stewing alone in the Arches when Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) paid him a visit and told him some hard facts.
Phil claimed that Peggy Mitchell had requested him to assist her in taking her own life but that he had declined, leaving her to do it on her own.
During the candid conversation, Phil advised Ben to quit making everything about him and spend more time with Lola.
Ben followed his recommendation and went to No. 18 to apologise to Lola.
Ben quickly made a covert phone call, indicating that he had not been persuaded to entirely abandon the idea.
He told Lexi his commitment and promised to do all in his power to prolong Lola’s life. He then asked to meet with Dr. Washington.
