The sudden arrival of Charles’ mother Claudette (Flo Wilson) in Emmerdale has been difficult for him (Kevin Mathurin), but it’s nothing compared to what’s now on his mind.
Charles gets a strange phone call, indicating that more secrets and lies may soon befall the Dales.
The following day, Charles agrees to help Claudette clean the church, an indication that he is preoccupied and lacks the will to challenge her. Claudette notices this shift and makes an effort to provoke him by criticising his sermons.
She receives a little bit more than she anticipated since Charles is not having any of her foolishness and leaves her hurt when he says there are other places she may go. Currently, he is more concerned about things other than her.
Soon later, the cause of his anxiety is made clear. He is seen preparing to meet an unknown individual who is approaching him as he walks towards a jail. Charles issues the man with a stern warning, telling him to avoid his family at all costs.

When Charles is at home and finding it difficult to handle the interaction, this jail visit is the first thing on his mind.
Claudette thinks she is to blame for his sudden outbursts of fury against his family. In actuality, Charles is being shadowed by the unidentified stranger. He was who?
