After having surgery in Coronation Street, Roy Cropper (David Neilson) was somewhat shocked to discover Yasmeen Metcalfe (Shelley King) wearing his late wife Hayley’s red coat when he awoke in the hospital.
After the cherished object was unintentionally given to a charity, Roy has been desperately trying to find it.
Roy was able to hang onto Hayley’s favourite anorak up until that dreadful day last year. Hayley tragically committed suicide in 2014 after losing her battle with terminal cancer.
Before Yasmeen showed up at his bedside, he was certain that everything had ended forever.
He instructed her to search for a tear in the left pocket that was large enough for a penny to pass through in order to be sure the coat she was sporting belonged to Hayley.
The rip was visible as Yasmeen turned the pocket inside out.
Roy recalled how Hayley used to insert pennies through the hole to make donations to charities as a result of this, which led to a charming dialogue.
Roy was not aware that Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman), who was standing behind the curtain and listening in, had come to pay him a visit.
She came to admit that, in case he didn’t make it through the procedure, she had read the letter he had written to her before his surgery.
She immediately had second thoughts and turned around to go home after realising that he was speaking to Yasmeen.
Yasmeen discovering Hayley’s coat made Evelyn envious, though.
