Over the past several months on EastEnders, Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) has dealt with a lot.

After caring for his dying wife Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) for several weeks, he is now left to help his stepdaughter Lexi (Isabella Brown) through her grief while also attempting to control his own emotions.

Following several months of fruitless therapy, Lola passed away from a brain tumour in heartbreaking moments.

Future scenes will centre on Jay and Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) assisting Lexi in coping with the devastating death of her mother.

They will push Lexi to talk about Lola as they spend an emotional afternoon together in the hopes that getting her to open up may at least somewhat aid in her grieving.

It appears that their efforts have been successful as Lexi begins to open up.

However, it quickly becomes apparent that Jay is not fairing well, so Lexi isn’t the only one who is struggling as a result of Lola’s passing.

Kim Fox (Tameka Empson), a friend and coworker of Lola, and Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick), are invited over to share some of the items from Lola’s memory box.

In the moments before her passing, Lola assembled the box to leave Lexi with a memento of her.

It quickly becomes apparent that Jay is stumbling in the midst of his all-consuming sadness as his friends and loved ones draw in around him in an effort to give him the support to carry on.

Will Jay be able to carry on without Lola, or will he eventually fall apart?
