Ellie Dadd, who plays the troubled adolescent Amy Mitchell on EastEnders, has expressed how much working with Rita Simons meant to her.

Over the previous year, viewers have watched Amy slide into a risky cycle of self-harm, which resulted in Roxy Mitchell, played by Simons, coming back to life as Amy imagined an emotional dialogue with her in therapy.

The sequences with Roxy, who died in 2017 together with her sister Ronnie (Samantha Womack), brought tears to the eyes of the audience.

But Ellie, who portrays Amy Mitchell in Albert Square, revealed that the toughest struggle was staying silent about the moments while chatting with Scott Maslen on the red carpet at the British Soap Awards.

I simply wanted to scream and yell about it, so having to keep it a secret was the worst thing imaginable, Ellie said.

I got to work with her, so I knew it was going to be fantastic. Sincerely, it was a great honour; she is adorable and has a golden heart.

Scott added his two cents on bringing Rita back to the set, telling us that Rita is essentially his female doppelganger.

She’s my sister from another mother, as we used to say.

Ellie, meanwhile, applauded EastEnders for bringing up the subject of self-harm, noting that it would be helpful to viewers who are experiencing a similar scenario with a loved one.

“It does happen frequently these days, but less is said about it, and many people from the older generation are unaware of this stuff.” They wouldn’t know what to do if they discovered a family member was involved.

Therefore, it’s an excellent approach to spread the word that folks may seek assistance. It truly is crucial, in my opinion.
