After previously fighting, Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) and Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) ultimately got back on track in Friday’s (August 18) episode of Emmerdale.
The best friends haven’t been on the same page this week because Marlon is furious at Paddy’s comments about his driving.
In Thursday’s (August 17) episode of the ITV soap, Marlon eventually decided to take the leap and get behind the wheel of a specially modified automobile.
The beloved figure hadn’t driven since his stroke, and he was naturally nervous about being handed the duty again.
Rhona (Zoe Henry) was in the passenger seat for Marlon’s first driving. She was encouraging, but Marlon was struggling with the adjustments. The automobile is made differently to accommodate Marlon’s mobility limitations, so it’s not as straightforward as getting back on a bike after a long absence.
Paddy was waiting for Marlon, as did Rhona and Mary (Louise Jameson), and he even feigned to be hit by Marlon when he pulled up on the drive.
This was addressed in tonight’s episode, when Marlon sat down with Paddy and revealed his concerns about driving and his fear of suffering another stroke behind the wheel.
Paddy apologised and informed Marlon that he’d be there tonight for a drive and that if he didn’t want to go, they’d do it tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day.
It was a sweet moment when Paddy told Marlon that he was there for him while he was struggling with mental health issues, and now it was his chance to be there for him.
