After 17 years of portraying shopkeeper David Metcalfe on the soap opera Emmerdale, Matthew Wolfenden has left the show.
According to a source, Matthew, 43, has had a fantastic experience on the drama but is ready for a change because there aren’t enough nasty plots for his character.
He wants to explore what else is available because he hasn’t recently been receiving any tough narratives.
The actor has addressed several significant plotlines during his time on the soap opera, including his former lover Maya Stepney (Louisa Clein) grooming his teenage son Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) and being the target of a terrifying gun siege.
He is married to actress Charley Webb, a former co-star, as Emmerdale fans will undoubtedly be aware.

Charley, 35, gained fame for her role as Debbie Dingle in Emmerdale, where she featured from 2002 until 2021.
Prior to being revealed to be the daughter of Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), the character was initially presented as the foster daughter of Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) and Emily Kirk (Kate McGregor).
She participated in several significant plotlines while she was a cast member of the show, including her pregnancy with Andy Sugden’s (Kelvin Fletcher) child at the age of 15, Sarah’s diagnosis with a blood disorder, the Woolpack siege in 2013, and her relationship with Ross Barton (Michael Parr), which earned her an Inside Soap Award in 2015.
