As if 2023 couldn’t get any better, one of EastEnders’ worst storylines from all time has just been dropped, and viewers couldn’t be happier about it.
If you’ll allow me, think back to the awful year of 2020. We realize it’s awful, but it’s essential.
You might recall that Denny Watts, the son of Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), sadly perished in the boat accident in February of that year.
Devastated Sharon eventually learned that Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) had imprisoned her kid in a chamber beneath the deck, and she held him responsible for her son’s premature passing.
In one of the strangest plotlines in EastEnders history, she started poisoning him in an effort to exact her vengeance.
The shocking part was when she eventually admitted it and stopped him from eating the poisoned carbonara.
Ian left the Square after she confessed, and nobody saw him again until last night’s (August 29) dramatic episode.
Sharon was shocked to see Ian back at the Queen Vic, but she had even greater shocks when Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) suddenly rushed into the space.

The effects of Cindy and Ian’s miraculous resurrections were felt far and wide in tonight’s (August 30) episode, with everyone in Walford unable to comprehend it.
While Cindy continued to dominate many conversations, Sharon’s attentions were diverted as she made every effort to mend fences with her ex-husband Ian and former closest buddy Ian.
When the two met in person for the first time since that terrible night in 2021, Sharon said that she had given the events there a lot of thought since she didn’t want them to damage their former friendship.
Sharon was able to finish the entire tale with only one phrase as Ian pointed out that she had attempted to kill him.
So did Cindy, but you appeared to overcome it, said Cindy.
Boom. Sharon dropped the mic completely there.
The two sat down for a long overdue conversation even though Ian has had more than 25 years to recover from Cindy’s effort to have him killed. It seemed, however, that Ian could not contest Sharon’s reasoning in this case.
EastEnders fans are overjoyed to see them back together because by the time they were through, it was as if nothing had ever happened.
