Joe-Warren Plant, an Emmerdale actor, has commented on the news that his on-screen father will be quitting the program.
Matthew Wolfenden, who has played David Metcalfe on the ITV serial for the past 17 years, will shortly be leaving the show, it was announced earlier this month.
For actor Joe Warren, who has played David Gallagher’s son Jacob Gallagher since 2010, his departure will be especially difficult.

He said, “I’m gutted!” to Inside Soap. “From him, I’ve learned everything. Since I had no prior acting training, Matthew provided all of my instruction.
He’s my best friend, so even though it’s upsetting, we’ll stay in touch. The most sincere person you will ever meet is Matthew. Without a doubt, I will miss him.
Joe-Warren stated of how his character Jacob will adjust to life without David in the community: “It’s going to be strange… He’ll need to spend more time with Leyla and adjust to living without a father figure, in my opinion.
Jacob loves David dearly, and the two have a positive energy, he continued. Without him, Jacob will suffer.

David claimed that when he left earlier this month, it simply felt like the “perfect time.”
The actor continued by saying, “I met my wife [Charley Webb] on the program, and we’ve had three kids. I’ve had a fantastic work for 18 years, but it’s also given me family. As a result, it has played a significant role in my life.
He teased, though, that David might not be our final sighting of him.
“The door is open, and they’ve pledged not to kill me off. He said, “I’m entitled to tell you that. So who knows, we’ll have to wait and see whether I return.
