Matthew Wolfenden has portrayed the cheeky David Metcalfe on Emmerdale for 17 years, but he only has two days of filming remaining, so his stint on the show will soon be coming to an end.

By posting the Elf the Musical poster to Instagram, Matt announced that he will be leaving the Dales for the stage in just a few days.

“It’s all so real now!” Alongside the poster, he wrote. “Only 2 days remain in Emmerdale, and then we’ll begin rehearsals for this fantastic play!”

Matthew will portray Buddy the Elf in the most recent production of the Will Ferrell-starring 2003 musical.

There will be a ton of drama before he leaves, but his Emmerdale character will continue to appear on screen for a few more weeks.

Recently, viewers have seen David’s son Jacob (Joe Warren-Plant) develop feelings for his ex, Victoria (Isabel Hodgins). The two even came dangerously close to kissing before David intervened.

Matt couldn’t reveal too much about his leaving when he was spotted at the CUREUsher event, but he did hint that it will have something to do with the on-the-rise romance between his son and ex.

He said to us that “the bond with Jacob and Victoria is a significant reason why David finally leaves the community.”

All I can say is that there will likely be some tears and conflicts.

Additionally, he made it apparent that David doesn’t depart the community in a hearse, leaving up the option that he could do so in the future.

I’m not going to die, which is fantastic, is all I can say. If I don’t pass away, David could return in a few years.
