In forthcoming episodes of EastEnders, Sonia Fowler and Reiss Colwell (Natalie Cassidy and Jonny Freeman) will embark on their next phase of IVF, which might potentially end in their breakup.
Reiss disclosed earlier this year that he was unable to conceive naturally, which drove the couple to make the difficult choice to try for a child through IVF.
All of this occurred in the midst of a misunderstanding where Sonia was concerned that she could be pregnant and Reiss accused her of sleeping with someone else because he couldn’t have children.
Fortunately, the couple moved over their miscommunication, and Sonia quickly consented to attempt IVF for a child with Reiss.
Reiss reassured Sonia that everything would be OK and that the money would come from his wife Debbie’s account, but he neglected to disclose that Debbie was comatose. Sonia was worried about how much the entire procedure would cost.
The pair will go to the hospital in later scenes for their first IVF round, and nearly immediately thereafter, the issues start.
Reiss’s domineering demeanor quickly grows tiresome to Sonia, who only gets more irritated when he attempts to give her medicine.
Soon, the two get into a heated argument, and as things spiral out of control, Sonia says she’s not sure if this will work.
Heartbroken, Reiss goes to the Vic, where his issues become the talk of the town.
Reiss immediately starts talking about IVF and fertility while having a drink with George Knight (Colin Salmon), Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe), Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), and Patrick and Yolande Trueman (Rudolph Walker and Angela Wynter).
Will he conclude that they would be better off parting ways after the talk, or will it help him get his relationship with Sonia back on track?
