There are spoilers in this article for Thursday’s (December 7) EastEnders episode, which you can view on BBC iPlayer right now even though it hasn’t yet aired on television.
The revelation of the Taylors’ role in Albie’s kidnapping by Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) shocked viewers of EastEnders last night (December 6), and this night offered yet another surprise that might completely alter the story.
Watchers will be aware that when son Albie vanished last month, Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) was left utterly distraught, thinking he had been abducted when a ransom letter was placed through the door.
She was unaware that Keanu Taylor, played by Danny Walters, was actually Albie’s father, who had orchestrated the kidnapping after his own attempt to take Albie away had failed.
For a considerable amount of time, the fact was kept a secret until Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) foolishly gave part of Phil’s money to Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace).
Before giving Sharon the money for the ransom, Phil had made sure to mark every note.
He was already wary of Karen’s abrupt financial plenty, so he double-checked the bills she gave Kat and saw they were identical.
Phil quickly revealed in the Queen Vic that the Taylors were responsible for the kidnapping after conducting more research.
But when it came to Keanu’s future, Karen did something unexpected: she revealed to everyone that he was unaware of the plan and that it was all her responsibility.
As a result, she took the brunt of Sharon’s wrath, earning herself a smack in the process, and the other Vic customers’ horrified looks.
In another place, Karen refused to give the money to Phil openly, saying him she would give it to him later. It was quickly evident why, as Phil was enraged and wanted his money back.
As the entire Square turned against Karen and Bernie Taylor (Clair Norris) was saddened by what they had done, she informed Mitch Baker (Roger Griffiths) that she believed it would be better to save the money so they could start over somewhere else.
In order to give Karen more time to go, Keanu was able to persuade Sharon to postpone reporting her to the police until the morning.
Is this what will eventually push Karen out of the Square, because she is scheduled to leave in the upcoming weeks?
Will Mitch consent to accompany her, or is she destined for an extremely alone future?
