As 2024 gets underway on EastEnders, Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) makes the decision to go back to Walford, and she’s not the only one.

Penny, the daughter of Scott Maslen’s Jack Branning, will accompany Lauren back home.

Not much is known about Lauren and Penny’s comeback, since their scenes will premiere only days following the Christmas Day murder.

In earlier photos, Lauren is shown being detained at the airport after a sniffer dog discovers something suspicious in her suitcase. We also know that, as a result of the evening’s events, Lauren will decide to depart France for England.

Penny will return to Walford later this week; however, is she now with Lauren?

And how will Jack respond to seeing Penny again, presuming he makes it through the holiday season?

Our last glimpse of Lauren was earlier this year. In the episode where we learned Cindy (Michelle Collins) had been living in France with Peter (Thomas Law) and Ian (Adam Woodyatt), Jacqueline played the same role.

Penny is the first significant TV role for rising talent Kitty Castledine since she graduated from the London Academy of Music and Drama in the summer.

“I can’t believe I’m starting my EastEnders experience so soon after drama school,” Kitty said upon joining the cast.

“My entire family watches EastEnders together, and now they get to see me on Albert Square. I recall watching the show on my Nanny Kay’s knee.”

I’m excited to be portraying a character as feisty and cool as Penny because, as a wheelchair user, I think it’s so essential to have challenged talent represented on television. She’s thrust right into the thick of things, and I’m excited to watch what she does.
