With its distinctive spin on the traditional soap opera whodunit, EastEnders has held the country captivated for the past ten months. Now, we’re just hours away from learning the truth.

The Six—Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal), Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), Denise Fox (Diane Parish), and Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean)—were shown together around a dead body in a scene that teased Christmas Day back in February.

Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw disclosed that the tale has been in the works for some months, and it appears to have received the precise feedback he was hoping for.

“Since February, the tremendous response to the flash forward and The Six plot has left us really happy.” The Christmas Day revelation is a very remarkable episode that should be watched live on Christmas Day, having been in the works for quite some time.

“We’re ecstatic with the hype around The Six.” It’s precisely what we anticipated would happen: we intended that individuals would converse, theorize, and develop their own hypotheses, which they would then share with one another.

“We are thrilled that it appears to be achieving that and the audience is enjoying being a part of it,” the statement reads. “We wanted it to be a plot that draws the viewers together too.”

Chris noted that the events of Christmas Day are going to permanently bond The Six together, so it’s not only the viewers who have been pulled together.

“The Six – Stacey, Suki, Linda, Sharon, Denise, and Kathy – are bonded together by the events of Christmas Day, and it’s safe to assume that none of their lives will ever be the same again.”

This plot has kept viewers wondering the entire year, and while we’ve occasionally wanted to rip out our hair and hunt Chris down for the answers, we’re relieved that EastEnders has been able to maintain such a tight lid on the denouement.

“We’ve employed many strategies over the course of the year to maintain the confidentiality of the plot and guarantee that the Christmas Day episode, along with the major reveal of who’s on the floor and who does it, stays under wraps until December 25th,” Chris clarified.

We all know how much the audience enjoys seeing the drama play out in real time, so it would be a great pity if someone gave away the surprise. Sadly, I can’t tell what those tactics are.

We know we won’t be able to sleep tonight due to our excitement, as there are just 24 hours left before the big announcement!
