A soap opera legend was Toby Jones’ father in Mr. Bates vs. The Post Office.

Mr. Bates vs. the Post Office, starring Toby Jones, airs today on ITV, REX, and shutterstock.

You may be surprised to learn that Toby Jones’ father had an appearance in a well-known soap opera, but he is presently the star of a new ITV drama called Mr. Bates Vs the Post Office.

The 57-year-old Harry Potter actress is well-known in the British film industry from her roles in ITV dramas including The Long Shadow and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Many people are unaware, though, that his late father Freddie also starred regularly in a popular ITV soap opera.

After a brief illness, Freddie passed away in July 2019. He was Sandy Thomas’s Emmerdale character.

In November 2005, Sandy Thomas made his debut in Emmerdale as the father of Luke Thomas and Ashley Thomas, the vicar.

His final acting position before retiring in 2018 was his 13-year tenure as Sandy Thomas in Emmerdale, which was also by far his longest running part in any TV show.

Born in Stoke-on-Trent in 1927, Frederick (Freddie) made his television debut in 1960.

In the course of his over 60-year career, Freddie made several appearances in TV movies, TV series, and movies.

Following Freddie’s passing, Charlotte Bellamy, who portrays Laurel Thomas on the soap opera, remarked, “We have learned that the beautiful Freddie Jones has died away.” His age was ninety-one. Playing his daughter-in-law, I had the good fortune to collaborate with Freddie for more than 13 years. His professionalism, sense of humor, and enthusiasm for life amazed me.

“He worked here in Emmerdale for his final years, and we all liked and respected him.” Without him, the world is a poorer place.

Although Freddie made the decision to leave the Dales, program executives had originally given him a 12-month contract extension. Freddie chose to depart in order to restore some work-life balance.

At the time, he stated to Radio Times, “It’s about the balance of my life.” The corporation extended a kind offer to me for an additional year. Nevertheless, I suddenly realized, “I have no clue what I’m going to do in another blasted year!” Ashley’s passing last year caused me a great deal of drama. But it is no longer there.

I take a three-hour car ride, go into a motel, and the following morning, I can hardly speak three lines. and then make the three-hour return trip.

Even though Emmerdale was really kind to beg me to stay, I can’t explain it.
